The mother-of-five, 39, has endured a tough few months following news surfacing of her beau’s affair with their children’s nanny, with her mum being diagnosed just days before with IPF (Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis) aged just 64 – a progressive lung condition with no cure.
The appearance comes shortly after the star admitted she had turned to anti-depressants after learning of her love rat husband Kieran Hayler’s cheating.

An emotional Katie had appeared on Loose Women on Tuesday, addressing Keith Chegwin’s death and her mum’s experience of the same condition he suffered from – losing his battle with IPF in just six months.
Breaking down in tears before being escorted off the set, the beauty was inconsolable as she told the panel: ‘He has the same condition as my mum. Not many people know about it… there should be more awareness.
‘Once you’re diagnosed it’s too late. It’s incurable. You don’t know how you get it,’ she explained, before trying to compose herself.

Speaking of her mother’s diagnosis, Katie admitted the severity of the condition ‘hadn’t hit her’ at first. She added: ‘But Keith got in touch, he was trying to help my mum.

‘I knew about [his condition] all along. I can’t believe he’s gone in six months,’ Katie said of mum Amy, who has been forced to sell her house as she becomes less mobile.
Delving into Amy’s battle with IPF, a heartbroken Katie cried: ‘My mum is getting worse. My mum had a cough for five years and thought it was asthma. How can my mum die? It might be my last Christmas with her.’
Junior and Princess will be spending this Christmas with their father Peter Andre, surely adding to Katie’s woes with her worrying that Amy will miss her potentially last Christmas with them.
‘She’s so healthy, she’s never smoked,’ Katie insisted, before admitting: ‘I couldn’t see her for a few weeks and I had to explain to her I didn’t want to see her like that, I can’t see her growing old. She can’t see Harvey turn 18, I love her so much.’
Ruth Langsford had to escort Katie out of the studio as her emotions got the better of her.
The panel then returned with just the three presenters, with Denise Van Outen telling viewers: ‘[Katie’s] had a hard night. She hasn’t slept… she wanted to raise awareness.’

Katie said: ‘I’ve been on medication since my mum was diagnosed. It’s just been a lot to deal with.’
The TV personality admitted the medication has been ‘helping’ her through her family woes.
Katie first opened up about her mother’s diagnosis in October, when her mum was told she was diagnosed with IPF unexpectedly after going for a routine X-Ray.
‘Once you’re diagnosed it’s too late. It’s incurable. You don’t know how you get it,’ she explained, before trying to compose herself.

The former glamour model had told The Sun at the time: ‘She’s got something wrong with her lungs and she’s been told she hasn’t got very long to live. She’s on tablets… at least I’m making her laugh. Whatever is happening, we’ve got to be upbeat about it.’
IPF is a lung condition that causes progressive scarring of the lungs, leading to breathing difficulties and those suffering from it rarely survive more than five years past their diagnosis.
Additionally Katie was left devastated in August on learning that her husband of three years Kieran had embarked on an affair with their children’s nanny. It followed his previous infidelities that saw him cheat on Katie with her former best friend of 20 years Jane Pountney and close pal Chrissy Thomas.

She said: ‘I still love him. The Kieran that I know, I love. The other Kieran… is horrible. It’s just so far away from the man I married.’
Katie shared her disbelief over his cheating ways and claimed: ‘It proves he has an addiction – he has an addiction because those women are disgusting.’

Paying her respects to the TV presenter, Katie revealed that Keith, who she remained firm friends with following their stint on the Channel 5 reality series together in 2015, had given her advice about the condition her mother is currently battling.
Taking to Twitter with a heart-felt post about the late star, Katie penned: ‘I’m absolutely gutted that Keith has passed away. I only spoke to him few weeks ago and he was giving my mum advice as she is suffering with the same lung condition my mum has which is IPF an incurable disease!

The star died at home surrounded by his second wife Maria and two children Rose, who is married to White Lies frontman Harry McVeigh, and Ted who described him as a ‘loving husband and father’.
His family today revealed he had been seriously ill for around six months with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). He told fans in a heartbreaking final tweet in September: ‘Still not right. I will be back – But not for a bit yet. I’m so sorry’.

In a statement, the entertainer’s family said: ‘We are heartbroken to share the news that Keith Chegwin sadly passed away following a long-term battle with a progressive lung condition, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which rapidly worsened towards the end of this year.
‘Keith died peacefully at home shortly after midnight on December 11. His wife Maria, his daughter Rose and his son Ted were by his side.
‘We would like to take this opportunity to thank Severn Hospice for the kindness, support and care they have shown us all over the last few weeks.’
‘Keith was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. We would respectfully ask to be left to mourn his passing in private.’

‘When she found out Kieran was messaging one of the girls from the club, she was absolutely destroyed – this has ruined their relationship.’
They added that Katie has vowed her on/off marriage to Kieran is now ‘over for good’.
