Subway passenger survives being hit by train after assault

A man who was struck by a train after being viciously attacked by two assailants on a New York subway platform is lucky to be alive. 

Surveillance footage of the incident shows the assault transpiring at 3.04am Saturday morning at the Union Square subway station in Manhattan.

Police said the unidentified 41-year-old victim was waiting for a southbound Q train when he got into a verbal argument with two men across the tracks.

The situation quickly escalates as the men run through the station to confront the victim on the other side, punching him in the head before fleeing the scene.

The blow knocks the man onto ground, with his head landing near the edge of the platform, according to The New York Daily News.

As the southbound Q train arrives it slams into the victim’s head, who miraculously manages to survive the impact. 

Police said the man was taken to nearby Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated for multiple fractures to his face and skull, and bleeding on the brain.

Police said the alleged assailants were photographed by the subway’s security cameras and have released their images to the public. 

Authorities said they are on a manhunt to apprehend the two individuals and ask anyone with information to contact the NYPD at 1- 800-577-TIPS (8477).
