Sydney twins launch swimwear line The Hessian Collection

They’re only 21, but twins Bianca and Yasmin Wilshin have already launched a swimwear collection that has accumulated thousands and thousands of fans.

The Sydney sisters are behind The Hessian Collection, a swimwear label inspired by their travels and the firm belief that less is more when it comes to bikinis. 

Bianca credits her mum and a trip to Bali with helping inspire her to start the collection.

‘Growing up with a mother who was a fashion designer definitely sparked our passion for creativity at an early age,’ the sisters told Daily Mail Australia.

‘After finishing high school we both had a lot of free time to travel and work on projects that really interested us.’

‘Our travel destinations mainly consisted of tropical islands and sunny locations, which inevitably led to our interest in swimwear and swimwear design.’ 

But it was the Bali trip that was the ‘catalyst’ to The Hessian Collection, Bianca revealed. 

‘My initial intentions were to bring my own designs to life for personal use,’ she said. 

‘However, the reaction from friends and the public was overwhelming. I received a lot of interest in my designs, so it felt only natural to create my own label.’

The Hessian Collection’s first line was inspired by the twins’ trip to Mykonos and Santorini. 

They have since visited the South of France, Barbados, Italy, Croatia, and Germany, making sure the designs and colours of each line is unique to the country that inspired it.

Bianca looked to what she wanted from her own swimwear when deciding what qualities would be essential to The Hessian Collection.

‘I believe I am a prime example of my target market,’ she said. 

‘A high-quality soft material, timeless design, and a flattering skimpy cut are important features I look for when choosing a bikini. So I aim to include these features in my designs.’

The Hessian Collection may be full of skimpy bikinis, but Bianca also worked to ensure that her minimal cuts would still be supportive and stylish. 

‘I think that people notice our passion for The Hessian Collection, and they see what the label is truly representative of: Pure, free, and independent women who aren’t afraid to show a little skin,’ she said. 

While juggling her university studies as well as obstacles from time availability to cash flow, Bianca officially launched The Hessian Collection in May 2016. 

Bianca is the sole owner of the company, but she and Yasmin together manage the brand using their education in business, finance, and marketing.

‘We both contribute to different sectors of the business, which has significantly attributed towards our success,’ she said. 

The twins initially began modelling the collection to save on costs, but soon found that having twin photoshoots was a great marketing tactic for the business as well

‘I am pretty lucky to have someone with the same drive and passion to pursue my dream with!’

They discovered that Instagram was the perfect place to increase brand awareness, and said their social media following has since been vital for The Hessian Collection.

Bianca will officially be qualified from the University of Technology Sydney with a Business degree in March, and then plans to focus on the brand full-time. 

In celebration, she and Yasmin next plan to find inspiration in America – visiting sunny locations like Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Palm Springs – in April. 

‘I can’t wait to finally apply my knowledge,’ she said, ‘And dedicate my entire attention and time towards The Hessian Collection.’
