Kent sex festival reveller took lethal MDMA overdose

  • Steven Graves was found outside a tent with a woman unconscious on his chest

  • The pair become intimate and started camping together, the inquest heard 
  • They had each taken a pill offered by a stranger who told them it was ecstasy 
  • A coronor today ruled that Mr Graves had ingested a ‘lethal dose’  of the drug 

A 53-year-old man died at a woodland sex fetish festival after taking a lethal dose of MDMA, an inquest has heard.

Steven Graves was found lying outside his tent with a woman unconscious on his chest on August 22 at Flamefest in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

He met Sandra Levy at the festival and the pair became intimate and started camping together, the inquest in Maidstone heard on Monday.

They had each taken a pill offered by a stranger who said it was ecstasy shortly before Mr Graves was found dead.

The court heard that Daniel Newcombe, a volunteer at the festival, saw the pair sleeping outside the tent and heard snoring as he pulled the duvet over them, said Det Sgt Jim Farley.   

Mr Newcombe later went to check on them and saw Mr Graves’ lips were blue.

The coroner, Geoffrey Smith, recorded the cause of death as a fatal overdose of MDMA.
