Florida man took Molly, stole swan boat and got stuck

A Florida man who was allegedly high on ecstasy got stuck in a fountain after stealing a swan boat and paddling it out to the middle of an Orlando lake.

Keith Thurston, 36, of Orlando, Florida, was rescued from the middle of Lake Eola at about 4am on Friday, when he was heard shouting for help while sitting in the middle of the lake’s decorative fountain.

Thurston told authorities that he had taken the swan-shaped paddle boat onto the lake to commune with the swans ‘because they didn’t judge him,’ according to the police report obtained by Orlando Weekly.

The police report also stated that Thurston said that he had ‘ingested a large quantity of Molly (MDMA)’ prior to his swan lake escapade.

Authorities said that Thurston had gotten stranded in the lake when the swan boat he was using floated away while he was walking on the fountain.

Thurston denied having tried to hurt himself during the incident, revealing instead that he had made use of a life preserver that he had found inside the swan boat.

Thurston, clad only in the life vest and shorts, was then rescued by the Orlando Fire Department, which used a boat of its own to drive out to the fountain, reports WFTV.

The visibly shivering Thurston was then taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Orlando Police Department is waiting to determine whether the rental boat company will file charges against Thurston and is investigating how he managed to take the swan boat out of a fenced and locked area.

Feeding live swans is among the suggested activities at Lake Eola Park.
