Rugby league superstar Jarryd Hayne has been accused of rape in a civil suit filed in an American court – alleging the cross-code athlete committed the crime during his brief stint in the NFL.
The suit was filed in Santa Clara County court overnight, accusing the 29-year-old of engaging in non-consensual sexual intercourse in 2015 with a woman known as ‘Ms V’, the Mercury News reported.
The suit states the victim was afraid to come forward at the time and was a virgin when the alleged rape took place.
The suit also alleges incidents of gender violence, sexual battery and emotional distress and negligence.
The case was reviewed by the District Attorney on October 25, 2016, but was rejected due to insufficient evidence.
‘Ms V’ reported the alleged rape to police in May last year.
