A Place In The Sun couple in tears after presenter Jean Johansson reveals cruel twist during their dream holiday home quest

A couple appearing on A Place In The Sun were reduced to tears after presenter Jean Johansson revealed a cruel twist at the end of an episode on Tuesday.

Jean, 41, was working with couple Manigeh and Ian in an attempt to help them find their dream holiday home in Torrevieja, Spain.

This saw Jean show the pair around five different properties throughout the course of the Channel 4 programme.

The couple’s budget was £90,000, with which they were looking for a house with at least two bedrooms.

Jean warned the couple that it could be difficult for them to find a property matching their ambitions for a budget under £100,000.

Jean said: ‘It is a challenge in this area so I know what you can get for £90,000.

‘There will be compromises to be had but I’m going to do my best to get all what you want into the property.’

However, Jean appeared to have secured the perfect place that could have been Manigeh and Ian’s dream home.

The presenter found them a three-bedroom townhouse listed at £84,052 which the couple had a subsequent offer accepted for.

However, there was a cruel twist at the end of the show, as Jean revealed that the seller chose to remove the property from the market as the 11th hour.

Jean said: ‘What a great search. However, a few days later the seller decided to withdraw from the sale and take the property off the market.

‘Such disappointing news for Manigeh and Ian but I hope they’re able to find their dream home soon.’

In November 2023, she revealed a previously unknown secret about the show.

Speaking to OK! magazine, Jean said presenters do not change their clothes while filming in order to give off the impression that everything happens in one day.

She said: ‘If there was a thing called ‘smell-o-vision’, we would not be on air.

‘Because we want each show to look like everything happens in one day, we all wear the same outfits for six days straight. So the big secret of the show is that we stink.’
