A Tesla driver complained about a stranger kicking the back of his car… but a glaring detail in security footage has Aussies turning on him

A Tesla driver who complained about a stranger kicking his car has sparked backlash over a glaring detail in security footage.

Luke Erwin, a social media personality based on the Gold Coast, had been driving out of a car park when the incident occurred last Monday.

Mr Erwin shared security footage from the Tesla and claimed in the video Australians seemed to have ‘lost the plot’.

‘I go out of the car park, everything’s all good, you know?’ he said.

‘It’s all good, everything’s all chill.’

He played footage of a stranger kicking the back of his car as he pulled onto the street.

‘Now see this person here comes out of nowhere,’ Mr Erwin said.

Footage showed a person wearing jeans kick the back of the vehicle as they tried to cross the driveway.

Mr Erwin claimed his Tesla was ‘getting that much hate’ and said he was left stunned by the incident.

‘Like, what is going on in the world?’ he said.

‘Everyone has lost the plot, bro, like I, I just slowed down.’

Mr Erwin captioned the video: ‘Something’s in the water.’

Social media users were not sympathetic towards Mr Erwin with many claiming he should have given way to the pedestrian crossing the driveway.

‘It appears that you didn’t stop for pedestrians,’ one wrote.

Some pointed out there was a stop sign painted on the end of the driveway.

‘As you said you slowed down but it said stop. You didn’t stop,’ one wrote.

‘You nearly took out a pedestrian ya gronk,’ a third wrote.

A few offered their support to Mr Erwin and agreed ‘something’s in the water’.

‘Something is definitely in the water.. a guy tried to run me over the day for crossing the road,’ one wrote.

‘That’s crazy, Luke. Hope your car is alright bro,’ another wrote.

One follower said they experienced similar issues in their electric vehicle.

‘I get the same thing in my BYD can’t believe how many people are against EVs.’

Mr Erwin is no stranger to controversy and came under fire in 2022 when he filmed himself throwing cash on a homeless man in Sydney.

Mr Erwin was seen raining $5 notes over the man’s head as he sat on the pavement.

‘Here we go, let’s go, baby,’ he laughed as notes fluttered to the ground while the man picked them up.

‘It’s all yours, mate. No one’s going to take it from you, you f***ing sick c***,’ he said.

‘Don’t get on a f***ing bender with that. That’s yours, brother.’

He then performed the same gesture to a homeless woman.

Some social media users claimed the influencer had ‘belittled’ the man and questioned if he was just donating for social media clout, while others said the stunt was ‘degrading’.

‘Personally I would just hand it to the poor bloke,’ one user commented.

‘The real flex is doing it off camera,’ a third wrote.

‘I don’t get this. a few weeks ago I brought a guy a tent bedding clothes and a pouch of smokes. I didn’t film it and missed out on buying myself a PS4,’ a fourth shared.

Another said: ‘That’s disgusting. It’s getting out of hand now. You help because you want to make a change not to get likes.’
