Sammy the dog chose the wrong marsupial to fight with after he was chased out of the bushes by a very territorial kangaroo during his morning walk.

The ten-month-old Golden Retriever was out for a stroll with his owner exploring a part of the park they’d never been to before when he caught sight of the kangaroo and began to bark.

‘It popped up out of nowhere and just blocked our path,’ said Sammy’s owner, who caught the entire interaction on video.

‘Sammy had never seen one so close before and we were both startled…And after a few moments it suddenly started to chase us down!’

The shocked dog and owner began to beat a hasty retreat, with the owner saying he had seen ‘terrible’ videos of dogs getting hurt by kangaroos and he didn’t want Sammy to come to any harm.

‘It finally decided to leave us be and jump off into the bush,’ the relieved owner recalled, adding that he won’t be walking in that part of the park any more.

Sammy’s owner said that in his experience, it was quite rare to get that close to a kangaroo, as they usually kept away from the path.

They had passed one five minutes before, which had bounded back into the bush and out of sight as they approached.

He added that before their run-in with Skippy, he was most worried about snakes – ‘but now I guess I have to look out for kangaroos as well!’
