A photo of a New South Wales ambulance’s number plate uploaded to a popular internet forum is causing a bit of a stir online but can you decipher why? 

Reddit user mubd1234 uploaded the photograph under ‘Unfortunate ambulance number plate’ on Friday which shows a New South Wales ambulance driving in front of him with the number plate DNR 25W.

In medical circles the acronym DNR is short for Do Not Resuscitate.

‘Huh, never occurred to me before, but why don’t emergency vehicles have a special or different plate?’ StaryMate2000 wrote. 

Reddit user Phenomenem pointed out that it was a timely number plate. 

‘Or extremely relevant,’ he wrote. 

The post comes in the wake of news that paramedics will now be able to refuse help patients after it was revealed three paramedics a week are attacked in NSW alone Yahoo 7 News reported. 

Health Minister Brad Hazzard said he would support any ambulance crews if they deemed a situation was too unsafe to treat a patient.

‘You must not put our paramedics at risk. If you do, you’re putting yourself, and your family or your friends at risk,’ he said in an official statement. 

NSW Ambulance Commissioner Dominic Morgan also supported the announcement and said he trusted the judgement of his paramedics.  

‘If that means the paramedic needs to stand off until the situation is clarified, or the police are in attendance, then we will back our paramedics to do that,’ he said.
