Jumping off a mountain in sub-zero temperatures might not be everyone’s idea of enjoyment.

But for thrill-seeker and former Royal Marine Commando Tim Howell that’s just what gets him hopping with excitement.

Stomach-churning video footage shows the adrenaline-junkie being the first to base-jump off a number of terrifying-looking peaks in Scotland and swooping over magical snow-carpeted landscapes once his chute opens.

Thrill-seeker and former Royal Marine Commando Tim Howell is seen base-jumping over Steall Waterfall in Glen Nevis

For some of the jumps, Howell donned skis. He was the first British person to ever successfully complete a ski base jump last year and he has since done many more. Above, he is seen about to jump from Storr cliffs on the Isle of Skye

In one clip, he points the camera towards his legs, with his feet dangling up high.

He then turns the lens upwards to show the breathtaking view – icy lochs surrounded by undulating snowy hills.

In another scene Howell is seen gently parachuting down into a stunning valley, with the mountainous scenery dwarfing him as he goes.

Howell’s base-jumping expedition took him to the Storr cliffs on the Isle of Skye, the north face of Ben Nevis, the Steall Waterfall in Glen Nevis and The Cobbler in the Arrochar Alps.

All of the jumps were achieved in the space of a week in snowy Scottish conditions.

This method allows the base jumper to ski out after landing and navigate the frozen landscape more easily.

Howell said he developed a passion for wingsuit base jumping, meanwhile, while working as a Commando in the mountain leader branch.

Over the years, Howell has jumped from various famous landmarks around the world including Table Top Mountain in Cape Town, Half Dome in Yosemite, Trident du Tacul in the Mont Blanc massif and the Grand Canyon in the U.S.

He explained: ‘My first base jump was in 2013 from a bridge in the south of France and my connection to this sport, considered deviant and unjustifiable by some, was instant.

‘I developed my skills over the following few years, which included being the first British person to complete a ski base jump, and being the first to do so in the UK at Buachaille Etive Mor in Glencoe.’

Over the years Howell – who has since left the Marines and is now self-employed – has jumped from various famous landmarks around the world including Table Top Mountain in Cape Town, Half Dome in Yosemite, Trident du Tacul in the Mont Blanc massif and the Grand Canyon in the U.S.

He is now part of the pro team for the British mountain clothing brand Jöttnar, which was conceived in the Arctic Circle by two former Marine Commandos and lifelong climbers and skiers, Tommy Kelly and Steve Howarth.

Jöttnar said: ‘An important part of the Jöttnar story is its Pro Team. This tribe of climbers, alpinists, skiers, speed flyers, Base jumpers, wingsuit flyers and survival specialists are closely involved in the brand’s product development. They provide a resource where new product prototypes can be thrashed, smashed, battered and beaten, and where improvements and fine-tuning can take place.’
