Aaron Boone was ejected in the first inning on Yankees vs Oakland Athletics when umpire Hunter Wendelstedt mistakenly though crowd abuse came from the New York manager.

Boone was livid at the call and remonstrated wildly with the umpire, who refused to change his mind. Television replays clearly showed Boone didn’t say anything.

Wendelstedt had just clashed with Boone seconds before over a strike call and was heard on teleivsion shouting to Boone: ‘If you’ve got anything else to say, you are gone.;

But as he turned back away, he heard something from a fan that he thought came from Boone and shouted ‘Aaron, you’re gone.’

Boone raced over to Wendelstedt, clearly stunned, and said: ‘I did not say a word, it was the crowd! Bulls***! I did not say anything, Hunter! I didn’t say a f***ing word!’

As Boone screamed in protest, Wendelstedt said: ‘I don’t care who said it, you’re gone.’
