Abandoned inseparable dogs both adopted in Oregon

Two dogs who are best friends have found a happy new life together after being discovered deeply malnourished and abandoned in Oregon.

The dogs, Phillip a white poodle mix and Dade a chocolate Great Dane, were discovered tied to a fence post in south east Portland in desperate need of medical attention.

Phillip, the eight-year-old poodle mix, was severely underweight, had a dislocated knee joint and was suffering from a dental disease, according to officials at nonprofit DoveLewis, KHOU reported.

Due to his severely matted fur, Phillip had to have his fur shaved off.

Dade, the six-year-old Great Dane, was also very malnourished weighing only 50 pounds, causing his ribs, hip bones and shoulder blades to stick out.

While the dogs were being treated at DoveLewis, an animal hospital in Portland, staff workers noticed they had an inseparable bond.

Even during treatments the dogs would be side by side and could not be separated.

‘I get teary just thinking about Dade’s worried expression when he walked in the room looking for Phillip,’ Lorri Schinderle, a technician assistant at DoveLewis said.

‘They were so attached. You can tell that they were meant to be together. Dade didn’t leave Phillip’s side, and he wouldn’t stop kissing him and loving him.’

According to Dr. Becca Falender, the dogs were so concerned about one another. ‘They were just so worried about each other – even when we separated them across the room, Falender said, KOIN6 reported.

Phillip and Dade were transferred to Multnomah County Animal Services after being cared for at DoveLewis.

The dogs were still in need of treatment at this facility, however once they were healthy enough, they were ready to be adopted.

‘We were so hopeful that they would find a home together. It feels good to know that we treated them, shaved years of mats off Phillip and gave them hope,’ said Schinderle.

‘It makes me so happy to know that someone is going to love them and they will have a new life together.’
