ABBA’s stylist reveals the Swedish pop superstars had an extensive backstage rider

They were the darlings of pop music with a sexy but wholesome image.

But ABBA’s stylist reveals the Swedish pop superstars had an extensive backstage rider that included plenty of alcohol.

When the group were in Australia in February 1977, stylist Ingmarie Halling tells Sunday Night that the singers, despite their innocent image, had plenty of drinks flowing backstage.

Not so innocent! The unexpected items Swedish pop stars ABBA demanded on their backstage rider during their wild 1977 Australian tour

Reciting their requests to the news program, Ingmarie listed off their list of demands, including rum, champagne and whiskey.

‘Two bottles of French dry champagne, well chilled, two bottles of Perrier water, Johnnie Walker Black Label, Negrita rum’ she quoted from the original rider.

There were plenty of non-alcoholic items also, with Ingmarie listing: ‘A half bottle of ten bottles of Coca-Cola, tea, coffee, milk, lemon, sugar, cups, glasses and spoons’.

Member Agnetha Fältskog told the program that she was grateful for the massive  interest in the group in Australia, with fans going wilder for the chat-topping  Swedes than they had done over The Beatles.

Agnetha was also pleased by ABBA’s 1990s revival which followed thanks to the film Muriel’s Wedding.

The 1994 Australian comedy featured a scene where characters Muriel Heslop (Toni Collette) and Rhonda Epinstalk (Rachel Griffiths) did a lip sync performance to teh ABBA hit Waterloo.

The movie also attracted Cher, who went on to star in the Mammia Mia: Here We Go Again musical movie as Ruby Sheridan earlier this year.
