The Sydney premiere of the ABCs upcoming series Westerners turned into a disaster on Monday when it became ‘hijacked’ by a nearby karaoke night.

Audience members were reduced to fits of laughter during a post-screening Q and A when the vocals from a nearby pub were piped into the theatre – minus any backing music.

An eye witness later explained that the mic at the premiere was using the same frequency as the karaoke night organisers.

Members of the Westerners creative team were left helpless on stage as the singer completed their song when venue staff struggled to fix the issue.

An audience member shared a clip of the embarrassing episode to TikTok.

‘My friend’s premiere Q&A got totally ruined by a karaoke mic from a pub nearby hitting the same frequency,’ they said, adding, ‘It was too funny not to share.’

The TikTokker included video of the audience laughing as they listened to the off-key vocals fill the theatre.

‘The venue was totally baffled and seemingly incapable of fixing it so they had to call it off! So strange,’ said Jack Colquhoun, who created the post in the comments section.

‘He has no idea how humiliated he was,’ a user commented about the anonymous karaoke singer.

‘This was so funny it actually hurt,’ added another TikTok user.

Set to drop on April 9 on ABC iview, Westerners follows three young adults from Sydney’s west who fall into a series of bizarre and comedic adventures.

Actress Natasha Cheng plays the character of Cheng, an artist who makes a deal with the Devil in order to overcome her creative ‘block’.

The character of Dulla played by Ubai Dahoud is chased by a ‘horde’ of matchmakers, all determined to find him a bride.

And Taz played by Sana’a Shaik cannot face the idea of living with her parents as her share house become overwhelmed with mould.

The show was created via Screen Australia’s Fresh Blood initiative and was written by Kevin Duo Han and Mark Mariano and made by Haven’t You Done Well Productions.
