The ABC’s live New Year’s Eve coverage was panned by viewers within minutes of the showing starting on the network.
It opened with singer Casey Donovan covering 2 Be Loved (Am I Ready) by Lizzo while playing the recorder with a group of children in a lip synched pre-recorded segment.
Viewers posted to Twitter to pan the performance, which also included Casey interacting with a teddy bear as she searched for ‘the vibes’ to ‘save New Year’s Eve’.

‘What monster thought it was a good idea to include recorders in the ABC Early Night NYE show?!’ one person wrote.
