Angry New York commuters are sharing disgusting photos of the city’s dirtiest subway cars as part of a competition to win $500.

Transport Workers Union Local 100 has asked those using the transport system to post the images online as part of contract negotiations between them and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

They say the MTA has cut 79 cleaner positions and ‘decided to spend their budget $$ on something else like million dollar consultants’.

The gruesome pictures show piles of trash plus ‘feces, blood and infectious waste’ according to TWU Administrative Vice President Nelson Rivera.

The competition was launched Monday and will run until the end of November when Local 100 say they will hand over the $500 check to the person who took the worst image. Riders are asked to share their images here.

Rivera added: ‘Since the authority is not listening to the union, they should hear from the riding public. It’s not a secret; these trains are a lot dirtier.’

The union represents around 40,000 New York City transit workers.

On the contest’s website, the union wrote: ‘It’s disgusting! If you encounter a filthy subway car, it’s because the MTA doesn’t have the staff to clean it.’

Rivera said of the MTA: ‘Maybe they’ll see this and invest the money in the right places.

‘If the MTA wants to save money, they should cut consultants, not service.’

MTA Spokesman Tim Minton said in a statement: ‘All 591 MTA subway trains in service every day — more than 5,000 train cars — are routinely cleaned multiple times throughout the day.’

Minton added: ‘NYC Transit mobile wash teams and daily cleaning staff are deployed to all 473 NYC Transit stations to address platforms. Beyond that, the MTA is focused on reaching a fair contract agreement with TWU Local 100 and we will not negotiate in the press.’
