AC Milan have made an offer to Chelsea for Christian Pulisic of £12m plus bonuses.

The fee plus Pulisic’s salary of around £12.8m ($16m) would mean the transaction would save Chelsea an initial £24.8m ($31.5m). However, Chelsea are pushing for more.

Pulisic, who has one year left on contract, arrived from Borussia Dortmund for £58million in 2019 but has struggled to cement a regular first team place under four different first team coaches.

He has still managed to amass 145 appearances for the club and scored 26 goals as well as being part of the 2021 side that won the Champions League, World Club Championship and European Super Cup.

Still only 24, the USA international captain saw a proposed loan move to Manchester United fall through last August while Newcastle United also enquired.

Despite a spirited effort by Lyon, Mail Sport believes Pulisic is set on Milan

Lyon are understood to have made a counter offer in the region of £15m ($19m) plus add-ons but are unable to offer European football next season.

Lyon’s current financial situation and budget is also under review by the French football’s finance watchdog who have yet to confirm if the club can participate in Ligue 1 next season.

Milan remains the player’s preferred option if they can reach agreement.

Other clubs such as Napoli and Juventus have since shown tentative interest in the midfielder but have failed to come up with serious offers.

Milan are understood to have an outline agreement on a contract ready for him and want him to line up alongside former Chelsea players Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud

Chelsea have raised £212million in players sales so far this summer and are looking to offload more over the coming days as they build funds to bid for Moises Caicedo of Brighton this week.
