Corrective Service’s special operations group officers are also responding to the incident, the Department of Justice said.

‘There are a number of prisoners on the roof of one block in the facility and prisoners inside the same block are causing damage, including setting fire to items in their cells,’ a statement said.

A command centre has been set up at the prison to coordinate the response.

‘There is no threat to the broader community,’ a department spokeswoman said.
