Accused online date killer pens chilling post days before Indian student is found dead in her home

A woman accused of assaulting a man she met through an online dating app wrote a chilling Instagram post just days before the alleged attack.

Jamie Lee Dolheguy, 19, faced Melbourne Magistrates Court via video link on Monday charged with the assault of Maulin Rathod, 25, a week earlier.

The Indian accounting student died after being found with life-threatening injuries at Ms Dolheguy’s home on Ross Court in Sunbury, 42km north-west of Melbourne.

Ms Dolheguy was charged with intentionally causing serious injury, although police are expected to upgrade the charges.

The 19-year-old has a history of severe mental illness, and has made a series of disturbing social media posts in recent months.

‘Demons are real and ghosts are too, they live inside us and sometimes they win,’ she wrote in one post last month.

Mr Rathod, who met Ms Dolheguy through an online dating app, was alive but seriously injured when he was taken to Sunshine Hospital where he later died.

Neighbours claimed police and carers frequently visited the home, which is owned by the Department of Health and Human Services.

A department spokesperson confirmed their ownership of the property, but said it was ‘not currently operating as a residential care facility’.

Mr Rathod’s friend Lovepreet Singh told 7 News that Mr Rathod was studying a Masters of Accounting and had been in Australia for the past four years.

Mr Singh also said the Elsternwick man was an only child, and his parents were stunned to hear of his sudden death.

‘His parents are in shock,’ Mr Singh said.

‘He was a very nice person, he had a jolly nature and he was cricket lover. I loved to hang around him.’

‘He had a very humble personality and tried really hard with his studies.’
