Adam Burgess wins Olympic canoe slalom silver as Team GB’s medal charge continues on the third day of Paris 2024

Adam Burgess continued Team GB’s medal charge by claiming silver in the men’s canoe slalom event after a stunning performance in the final.

Burgess produced a clean performance in the final at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium, taking the lead with three rivals left to go. 

The British canoeist launched into celebrations with Kimberley Woods, a kayak bronze medallist on Sunday, after it was confirmed he would secure a podium finish having finished fourth at Tokyo 2020.

Germany’s Sideris Tasiadis and Spain’s Miquel Trave failed to beat Burgess’ time, leaving the Briton assured of at least a silver medal. 

Burgess was left to wait for France’s Nicolas Gestin to take to the course in front of an expectant crowd.

Gestin, who posted the fastest times in both heats and the semi-final, delivered under the pressure to finish in 91.36 seconds.

The Frenchman finished over five seconds fastest the Burgess following his flawless run.

Slovakia’s Matej Benus completed the podium places in 97.03.
