Adam Campion jailed after filming himself speeding at almost 200mph

A reckless biker has been jailed after filming himself speeding at almost 200 miles per hour – believed to be the highest speed reached by a motorbike on British roads.

Heart-stopping footage shows Adam Campion, 26, doing wheelies and weaving in and out of traffic while hurtling down busy roads on the stolen vehicle.

Campion also drives on the wrong side of the road and ploughs through red traffic lights in shocking clips discovered on his laptop.

At one point he uses one hand to steer and films himself on a phone with the other reaching a top speed of 189mph.

Tim Brady, from Harrow in north-west London, was previously described as the fastest speeding motorist ever caught in Britain, driving a Porsche at 172mph.

Campion, of Hucknall, Ashfield, was jailed for 21 months at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to five counts of dangerous driving.

He also pleaded guilty to assisting an offender in the retention of stolen goods.

Police discovered the damning footage when they executed a warrant at Campion’s address and recovered his laptop in September 2016.

The laptop contained hundreds of videos and images of motorcycles being driver recklessly.

Officers had earlier found a licence plate in the boot of an abandoned car which was connected to a stolen motorbike linked to Campion.

Detectives used forensic facial recognition which identified him as the reckless rider.

Inspector Glenn Longden, of Nottinghamshire Police, said after the case: ‘The illegal and dangerous use of motorcycles is a massive issue to our communities and although this investigation was immensely complex and time consuming, the result in court has been satisfying.

‘I hope this prison sentence will make those who think it is acceptable to put themselves and others in danger by driving dangerously think twice.’

Enquiries to identify other offenders seen in the videos are ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101.
