Adam Peaty is OUT of the mixed medley relay final at the Olympics despite Team GB star returning to the pool this morning

  • Adam Peaty hasn’t been selected for the Olympics mixed medley relay final
  • Peaty admitted that he has endured the worst week of his life physically

Adam Peaty will not be involved in the mixed medley relay final at the Olympics on Saturday night.

Peaty returned to the pool this morning but has not been selected.

The 29-year-old admitted that he has been struggling physically after testing positive for Covid-19 on Monday.

Former Team GB swimmer Mark Foster said on BBC Sport: ‘I can only guess [Adam Peaty’s non-selection] that’s down to the fact that after a couple of days of covid he’s not felt that up to it. He is the best in the breaststroke.

‘The Americans and Australians will be tough to beat, but we’re in it and are in with a shout.’

Peaty admitted that he has endured the worst week of his life physically.

He said:'(It’s) probably (been) the worst week of my life in terms of how my body is – and that is no exaggeration.

‘Everything’s come at once and since Covid, I’ve been waking up every day with a different thing.’

Peaty wasn’t involved in the mixed 4x100m relay heats on Friday.

However, he did take part in the men’s 4x100m heat as he finished in fifth place.
