Broncos halfback Adam Reynolds believes teammate Payne Haas initially signed a NRL contract for ‘less than he is worth’ – and that young players agreeing to long-term deals is fraught with danger.
Speaking on Triple M, the injured playmaker confirmed Haas, 22, will play against the Titans on Friday night at Suncorp Stadium – and hopes the front-rower stays at Red Hill long term.
‘I’ve spoken to Payne… he’s ready to go,’ Reynolds said.
‘He is a great player who probably signed (his first deal) for a lot less than what he’s worth. ‘That’s the risk you take with long-term contracts.’
On Wednesday night, Haas requested an immediate release, which was rejected by the Broncos.

Haas has signed until the end of 2024 on a deal understood to be worth around $800,000 a season.
He and his management want an upgrade in the vicinity of $1million this year and for 2023 – before rising to $1.2million in 2024.
The ambitious request was quashed when Brisbane informed Haas’ management team – led by former NRL journeyman turned agent Tyran Smith – they simply had no wiggle room in their future cap space to consider the upgrade.
News of Haas attempting to hold Brisbane to ransom didn’t sit well with one club great.
Speaking on Fox League, Corey Parker called for his former side to come down hard on Haas and grant him his wish by cutting him loose.
‘While he’s a terrific player, at no stage in the Broncos history has one player been bigger than the club,’ Parker fumed.

‘I would let Payne Haas go right now, right now. I would let him go. […] This player doesn’t want to be there. […] If you don’t want to play for the Broncos, don’t play. It’s just ridiculous after what the club has done for him.’
For his part, Haas insisted he remained committed to the Broncos.
‘All that matters is we got a game tomorrow night (Friday) and all my focus is on that,’ he wrote on Instagram.
‘All I can control is giving my all for my teammates and you guys. Much love everyone always.’
While undisputedly a great asset on the field when firing, Haas has been source of several headaches for the Broncos off it in recent years, falling foul of the NRL Integrity Unit on multiple occasions.
The most recent incident came when he suspended for one match last month after a scuffle with teammate Albert Kelly, which was filmed by a member of the public.
