Adelaide mother Tegan Latham moves family to converted bus

A single mother has moved her family into a bus because she couldn’t keep up with Australia’s increasingly unaffordable rental costs.

Fed up with the restrictive rental market, Adelaide mother-of-two Tegan Latham moved herself and two young sons into a converted bus she bought on Gumtree for $28,000.

Since moving her two boys Ollie and Charlie into the bus, she said they had everything they needed and were happier than ever.

‘It kind of feels like you’re on holiday most of the time,’ she told Today Tonight.

After investing a further $7000 in renovations to the bus, Ms Latham said the house boasted a full size fridge, washing machine, bedroom and comfortable living room.

Ms Latham moved her new home into a caravan park near her sons’ school.

She said the boys were ecstatic because the park was near the beach and had a community pool.

‘Ollie just said the other day, “I like the house mum, but I really love the bus”,’ she said.

While the caravan park was a great short-term solution, Ms Latham said she planned to find a more independent piece of land.

‘My hope is to find some land that I could be paying even less, supplying my own power,’ she said.

Ms Latham said the bus served as more than just a new home for the family, it opened up new possibilities.

With the bus, she said she wanted to take her boys on an adventure across Australia.
