A 47-year-old mother has been left outraged after a sign banning people from rolling down a grassy hill was put up at a popular park.

Cathie Morris, from Adelaide, has been a regular visitor at Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens with her children for years.

But a new sign was recently erected, reading: ‘For your safety and that of others – PLEASE DO NOT engage in sliding or rolling downhill.’

Unimpressed with the display, the mother-of-two took to social media to vent her frustration, as she shared a photograph of the sign.

‘The “Fun Police” are at it again!’ she wrote on Facebook.

‘Kids have loved sliding down this grassy hill at Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens for years. So sick of all the litigious, risk averse, politically correct madness!!! Rant over…’

Speaking to Today Tonight, the 47-year-old mother said the activity has been a favourite past time for children.

‘It’s a rite of passage, kids should just be allowed to roll down hills,’ she said.

‘I just feel like it’s a bit sad that the simple pleasures in life is now considered too dangerous.’

The decision to erect the sign comes eight years after a person suffered an injury after sliding down the hill, Botanic Gardens said.

‘A person crashed into another visitor, who suffered a broken limb,’ it said.

‘The safety of visitors is paramount.’

But Ms Morris said: ‘It’s just a shame that one incident has spoiled it for everybody.’
