Referring to the difficulty of her own divorce, Jackie asked the Skyfall singer: ‘It takes a long time to get to a good place. Did you find that, or did you snap back pretty quick?’

‘No, it took me two years,’ replied Adele.

‘It felt like the world was ending most of the time, even on a good day.’

Adele recently revealed three of her closest friends were not bowled over by her record-breaking new track when they first heard the song.

Speaking on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Greg James on Friday, the hit-maker explained: ‘I sent a snippet of me singing it as I was writing it to three of my closest friends here. One didn’t like it, the other one was like, “Well, yeah, maybe, keep trying though.”‘

Adding that one friend was too busy with work to even listen to the track – which has set a new world record for the most streams in a single day – Adele insisted: ‘That was the perfect response for me.’

She explained to Greg: ‘I’m such a knee-jerk person. I’ll be like, ”I don’t like it, forget it!” I’m like that with my music.

‘I’m like that with just things I want to do. I’m like that with my feelings and stuff and I think it was clear to them [her friends] in the lyrics that I’ve bided my time and I wasn’t reacting to a reaction or anything like that.’

She concluded: ‘It was just a feeling that I had stirred on for a while.’

Adele’s upcoming album 30 is set for release on 19 November.

Spotify revealed on Friday that Easy On Me has set a new record by becoming the most-streamed song in a single day ever, with a tweet captioned: ‘And just like that @adele set a new record.’

The singer left her fans in tears as she finally released her first new track in five years – which reflects on the pain she felt amid her divorce from husband Simon Konecki.

The highly-anticipated single, released on YouTube at midnight on Friday ahead of her album 30 set to drop next month, soon shot to YouTube’s top trending clip.

Along with the music video – which sees the star pack up her house and drive away, as pages of sheet music flutter out of the windows onto the road – the single went down a storm with fans who took to Twitter to claim it was giving them ‘goosebumps’ and making them ‘sob’.

Another went as far as to claim it made them want to get a divorce themselves.
