Adorable animals feature animal photographer year awards

A biking dog, a rabbit in a bow tie and a black cat enjoying a wine glass filled with milk are just three of the adorable animals captured in this year’s Australian Professional Photography Awards (APPA) animal category.

The photos – captured by some of Australia’s top animal photographers – capture all sorts of animals in both natural and slightly posed settings.

Pet photographer, Angie Connell, took home the prize for Pet/Animal Photographer of the Year – thanks to her imaginative renditions of a dog inside a picture frame, a rabbit in a bow tie and tweed jacket and a white cat clad in robes and a crown.

Elsewhere, other photographers showcased everything from birds to koalas and snoozing dogs.

APPA is the largest awards for professional print photography in Australia, and one of the largest in the world. Meanwhile, the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) has been running the awards annually for the past 41 years.

‘APPA is the only awards in the country that celebrates photography in its original form by valuing the photograph, which in its printed finish displays authenticity and permanency,’ AIPP National President, Vittorio Natoli, said.

‘The awards images display visual literacy with exemplary creativity, vision and craft.’
