AFL heartthrob Bailey Smith splits from his girlfriend Gemma Dawkins after two years

AFL heartthrob Bailey Smith is believed to have split from his girlfriend of two years Gemma Dawkins.

The Western Bulldogs star, 23, quietly separated from Gemma earlier this year, according to the Herald Sun.

Bailey first confirmed their romance in May 2022 and they made their public debut as a couple on the 2023 Derby Day in Melbourne.

The private couple have kept their relationship relatively under wraps ever since, but are now believed to have gone their separate ways.

The pair appear to have unfollowed each other on Instagram and Bailey last shared a photograph with Gemma in February during a romantic trip to New York.

Bailey’s friends have rallied around him and they recently joined a fun-filled night out together at Melbourne hotspot, The Commons Collective.

The midfielder, who made his AFL debut in 2019, first confirmed he was in a relationship during an interview in May 2022.

In the low-key admission, he told how his girlfriend’s father had seen him in shirtless adverts for fashion brand Cotton On.

‘It’s funny. My girlfriend’s dad drives past it every day,’ he revealed. ‘It’s hilarious … It’s interesting but I don’t pay too much attention to it [but just focus on my footy].’

Later that year, Bailey was then seen putting on a loved-up display with Gemma as they were spotted holding hands during a walk.

The low-key couple then finally made their public debut at the 2023 Derby Day in Melbourne.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Bailey for comment.

Bailey’s 2024 AFL season was completely wiped out by a shock injury to his knee mid-way through a training session with the Western Bulldogs in December.

Scans later confirmed he injured his anterior cruciate ligament, putting his entire football career at a crossroads.

Bailey took to Instagram after learning the shattering news and posted a photo of himself training with the caption, ‘Ahh well, she’ll be right,’ with a blue heart emoji.

‘We’re all extremely disappointed for Bailey and empathise with him greatly,’ Bulldogs football director Chris Grant said.

‘The entire club will rally around him during this difficult time as he begins his rehab journey.’

At the time, his followers sent their best wishes and urge him to stay with the club amid ongoing speculation about his future.

Amid rumours that he could be moving to another club, it has been claimed the Bulldogs have offered him a two-year contract extension, which could lock him in until 2027.
