AFL star Bailey Smith and new girlfriend Gemma Dawkins enjoy a rare public outing together

AFL star Bailey Smith confirmed his romance with new girlfriend Gemma Hawkins last month when they were spotted holding hands during a romantic stroll.

And the couple proved they are going strong as they attended the Western Bulldogs’ Best and Fairest night in Melbourne together on Wednesday night.

The footy hunk, 21, and his new partner did not appear to walk the red carpet or pose for photos at the event, which was held at Crown.

However, Gemma was seen spending time with several fellow WAGs, posing for candid photos in a strapless black gown.

The brunette was seen mingling with many of the other ladies as well as Bailey’s teammates.

In one photo, shared by Jason Johannisen’s pregnant partner Logan Shine, she posed alongside Lou MacLeod, partner of Jack Macrae; Laine Kelly, partner of Laith Vandermeer; Elle Neofytou, partner of Ed Richards; and Penelope Bruce, wife of Josh Bruce.

It was a rare outing for Bailey and Gemma, as neither of them attended the 2022 Brownlow Medal the week before.

The pair keep their relationship relatively private and were publicly seen together for the first time only last month.

Bailey and Gemma, who first sparked romance rumours back in May, looked loved-up when they were spotted holding hands in Melbourne one weekend in August.

He later shut down mentions of his girlfriend during an appearance for the launch of Kings Domain’s 3-In-1 Shampoo Conditioner Body Wash in Melbourne.

‘I’m not gonna talk about that,’ he told a reporter earlier this month.

‘I love her. She’s the best, but we’ll leave her out of it.’

Bailey confirmed he was in a relationship with Dawkins during an interview in May.

He said his girlfriend’s father had seen him in shirtless adverts for fashion brand Cotton On, which are currently plastered on billboards across the country.

‘It’s funny. My girlfriend’s dad drives past it every day,’ Smith revealed.

‘It’s hilarious … It’s interesting but I don’t pay too much attention to it.

‘I try not to. I just focus on my footy, because that’s what comes first, and all those other rewards with Cotton On and [energy drink] Monster come after that.

‘As long as I keep trying to perform and work hard during the week all those other fruits and exciting things come.’

Meanwhile, at the Charles Sutton Medal event on Wednesday, Western Bulldogs star Tom Liberatore left the crowd in stitches with one of the shortest and best speeches in AFL history.

The midfielder, 30, took to the stage after being awarded the 2022 John Schultz Community Award.

He seemed confused as he asked which of the two microphones he needed to speak into for his big moment.

‘This mic? Or that mic? Both?’ he asked, holding one of the microphones as guests at their seats began to laugh.

The hand microphone was then taken off Libba who proceed to begin his speech.

‘I’m a man of few words,’ he said to the audience, before simply asking, ‘Any questions?’

The crowd erupted as he smiled jokingly.

Libba has become the first player to win the John Schultz Community Award on multiple occasions, after first receiving the honour in 2019.
