AFL superstar Joel Selwood has sparked unintended outrage after he posted a TikTok video of himself using his new wife as a mop to clean the house.

The short video clip played to the lyrics of The Clean Up Song showed the Geelong Cats captain playfully swinging his wife Brit upside down.

He dunks his wife of three months into a bucket of water before using her wet hair as a mop to clean the tiled floor.

The TikTok video has since been deleted

The TikTok video garnered more than 40,000 views before the footage was deleted by the couple.

The video has divided opinion on social media, where Selwood copped a roasting.

Furious fans went as far as calling for the three time premiership winner to be sacked as Cats skipper, a position he’s held since 2012.

‘A lot of kids, boys and girls would look up to Joel Selwood, so what a horrible example of how to treat women he is showing them,’ a woman tweeted.

A man added: ‘For what it’s worth, I wasn’t a huge fan of Joel Selwood mopping the floor with his wife’s hair either. Happy Mother’s Day.’

Other critics lashed out at him for posting the video as a joke.

‘What were you thinking? Not funny mate,’ one fan wrote.

But many other fans leapt to Selwood’s defence and saw the video as harmless fun.

‘People losing their minds over the Joel Selwood ”mopping” clip is predictable. It proves, yet again, that footy is desperately required to shut down this TikTok bollocks,’ one fan wrote.

Another added: ‘The people offended by the Joel Selwood video need to get a freaking life, honestly.’

The glamour couple met through mutual friends in 2015 before Selwood popped the question to his girlfriend in August 2018 on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula.

The couple married in a lavish wedding on a private property near Geelong in January, which was attended by many of Selwood past and present Cats teammates.

The Selwoods honeymooned at luxury lodge Saffire Freycinet on the Tasmanian east coast, which costs $2,100 a-night.

‘We had the day of our lives yesterday with all our loved ones,’ Ms Selwood told Herald Sun at the time.

‘It was an incredibly magical day filled with love and happiness.’

Selwood later posted on Instagram: ‘I’ve been lucky enough to have some amazing experiences and moments in my life but this day tops them all.’
