AFL star’s pregnant wife hits back at trolls who criticise WAGs walking the red carpet at Brownlow Medal

The wife of Essendon captain Zach Merrett has hit back at cruel trolls who make fun of AFL WAGs walking the red carpet at the Brownlow Medal ceremony.

Alexandra Merrett, who is pregnant with her first child, took to TikTok to explain the process behind putting together a look for football’s night of nights.

In a video taken in her car, the WAG gave her followers an insider’s perspective on the event.

‘For those who don’t know, every single year, I think five or six players get invited,’ she said.

‘Unless you are the captain or you have previously won a Brownlow, you do not find out that you are going until the home and away season has ended,’ the WAG clarified.

Alexandra, who is launching a luggage brand later this year, continued by calling out those who criticise the women who walk the Brownlow red carpet.

‘This is why I find it so interesting when people are so cruel about the way everyone looks on the night because some of these women have two weeks to pull together an entire outfit.’

Elsewhere in the video, the expectant mother explained she has postponed designing her custom frock for the September ceremony because of her burgeoning baby bump.

The dark-haired stunner has been collaborating with stylist Maggie Smith and designer Sonia Cappellazzo to workshop various styles accomodating her belly.

‘Normally I would be a little bit more organised than this but obviously with my growing bump we wanted to give it a bit more time, just to wait and see what my body was going to do,’ she said.

The video comes just two weeks after Zach and Alexandra announced they were pregnant with their first child.

In a joint Instagram post, the husband and wife shared several black and white images with Alexandra showing off her baby bump.

In a video taken in her car, the WAG explained that partners of players only have a limited time to put together their looks due to the Brownlow's invite policy

Zach wore a black T-shirt and white pants, while his wife wore jeans and a midriff top revealing her growing tummy.

In another photo, the WAG posed in a sheer lace gown that revealed her changing figure.

The couple were all smiles as they made the announcement, writing in the caption: ‘Baby Merrett, we’ve been waiting for you.’
