Sydney have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat to shatter North Melbourne hearts.

Just days after Alastair Clarkson stepped away from the AFL strugglers as a result of the mental and physical toll of the Hawthorn investigation, the Roos were minutes away from registering a huge win at Marvel Stadium.

But an infringement on the interchange bench – in which they excedeed the limit of 75 interchanges for a match – handed the Swans a free kick and 50-metre penalty and they capitalised, winning by three points.

‘Huge absolutely huge in the context of the season,’ said Buddy Franklin – who snapped his goalkicking drought with a goal on Saturday.

‘We knew things would turn but we just had to win that.’

When asked about the unusual interchange infringement, Franklin said: ‘Lucky us. That’s the rules.’

More to follow.
