  • After years of turmoil Essendon is this year on the verge of playing in AFL finals

They’re on the verge of their first finals appearance since the infamous drug scandal.

And it seems that after years of turmoil, the Essendon Bombers are finally preparing to celebrate.

The AFL club unveiled its own brand of beer on Monday, ensuring it would appeal to not just its own fans but also Melburnians by including a much-loved hipster brew.

Featuring a red and black can, the ‘Bombers’ beer is a tribute to the team’s 146-year history.

Filled with the trendy Kolsch Ale, the beer is set to be a hit in the Bombers’ heartland in Melbourne’s north-west.

But although the brew is targeted at Melburnians, it is created by Western Australia-based company Colonial Brewing.

That may prove particularly controversial should the Bombers’ miss out on playing in this season’s finals to the West Coast Eagles.

Bombers star Michael Hurley, who is currently battling injury, said he hoped his side would be able to taste the creation after success in September.

‘Hopefully we’ve got a few more weeks left and then I can have a few celebratory beers,’ Hurley said.
