An AFL umpire has proposed to his colleague and girlfriend of 10 years on the field at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground after a game.

Boundary umpire Dillon Tee proposed to his girlfriend, Eleni Glouftsis, who is the AFL’s first, and only, female field umpire.

Tee, 30, waited until the stadium was empty after the Carlton – Adelaide game on Saturday before he popped the question.

On one knee, he offered his 27-year-old girlfriend an engagement ring and asked her to marry him.

Although surprised at the unexpected proposal, Glouftsis accepted and kissed Tee before they hugged.

They were cheered on from their respected families on the sideline and a few spectators who were still at the stadium.

‘There were more people still in the stand than we expected, including our families who were here to watch us,’ Glouftsis told Adelaide Now.

Despite having both worked as officials for several years, it was the first game the pair had umpired together.

The pair first met when they were both umpires in the South Australian National Football League.

‘I’ve been umpiring AFL now for three years and Dillon has been umpiring for eight years approximately and we have never had a game together,’ she said.

‘Today (July 27) was our first game, with Dillon on the boundary and myself on the field.

‘It was a really exciting day anyway and Dill said that we had to have a photo taken for the AFL Umpires Association so we went back out to the field. Then we were hanging out looking at the centre and he decided to propose.’
