African Apex teen set to be deported after prison release

A teenage Apex member who police describe as a ‘leader of the pack’ is set to be deported after a shocking string of crimes.

The African thug, 17, has been in youth detention for most of the past two years after committing more than 100 offences on the streets of Melbourne.

The teenager, who can’t be named for legal reasons, ‘delights in violence and humiliating his victims’, sources told the Herald Sun.

He has been involved in a series of terrifying home invasions and armed robberies – and also has convictions for car theft and assault with a weapon.

The serial offender’s visa was cancelled after the Department of Home Affairs learned he would soon be eligible for parole.

The teen, who was involved in last year’s Parkville Youth Justice Centre riot, has the right to appeal his deportation.

It comes after another alleged Apex ringleader, Issac Gatkuoth, appealed the decision to send him back to Sudan.

The 20-year-old was sentenced to 16 months in youth detention after a number of violent crimes across Melbourne, including an ice-fuelled carjacking in late-2015.

The traumatised teenage victim, who was held at gunpoint, later killed himself.

There were plans to ship Gatkuoth back to his home country at the end of his sentence, but he has appealed the move to cancel his visa.

A petition aiming to ‘stop the Australian government deporting Issac Gatkuoth’ was backed by 602 people when set up last year.

‘Issac Gatkuoth came to Australia as a nine-year old child refugee. He “endured a hellish, parentless upbringing in Sudan”,’ the petition read.

‘He hasn’t seen his mother since he was five years old, his two brothers were killed when his village was “wiped out”.’

Gatkuoth has previously denied being a member of the Apex gang.

A spokesman for the Department of Home Affairs told Daily Mail Australia it does not comment on individual cases.

The spokesman added: ‘The Department continues to work closely with Victoria Police and other agencies to identify and, where appropriate, cancel visas of foreign nationals engaging in gang violence or other criminal activity.

‘Foreign nationals who engage in criminal activity or other serious conduct of concern, regardless of their age or nationality, should generally expect to be denied the privilege of coming to, or to forfeit the privilege of staying in, Australia.’
