A married Air Force couple are under investigation for possible manslaughter and child abuse after their baby son died and their newborn daughter was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Federal officials are currently trying to get Caleb Humphrey and Natasha Beyer to hand over financial and Facebook records as authorities investigate their son’s death and daughter’s abuse.

The Hawaii couple, who are both Air Force sergeants and work in intelligence gathering, have so far refused to hand over their credit card transactions, bank records and Facebook exchanges.

Investigators argued that the records they have subpoenaed may help prove the couple allegedly had a financial motive to harm their children, Hawaii News Now reports.

Sgt Humphrey and Sgt Beyer have not been charged in relation to their son’s death or daughter’s injuries.

The couple’s son, Grayson, died at Tripler Army Medical Center when he was one-month-old in May 2016.

At the time, doctors ruled the baby boy died of natural causes even though he had suffered broken ribs.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner and military doctors started investigating Grayson’s death after the couple’s two-week-old daughter was admitted to the same hospital in July last year suffering from similar injuries.

The newborn girl had endured bleeding on her brain, a skull fracture and bruising on her left cheek.

Her father told the doctor that he had fallen while holding the baby girl.

Medical experts, however, ruled that her injuries were likely a result of physical abuse.

When experts reviewed the case involving Grayson’s death, they eventually changed his cause of death to homicide and stated that he had suffered blunt force injuries to his head.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Sydney Spector wrote in recent court documents: ‘The financial records sought by the subpoenas may substantiate the financial difficulties of Sgt. Beyer and Sgt. Humphrey and therefore provide a financial motive for death’.

He added: “The pressure of the financial issues in combination with the strain of caring for a newborn may have driven (them) to injure their children’.

Authorities said Humphrey is believed to have complained to a friend over Facebook about the couple’s increasing credit card debt and the cost of living in Hawaii.
