Airport chaos as Virgin Australia check-in system crashes

  • Virgin Australia passengers face long delays after check-in malfunction
  • Everyone being manually checked in after ‘Optus technical issue’ crashed it
  • Adelaide Crows among hundreds of stranded passengers in Melbourne Airport
  • Days after massive outage threw airports into chaos around the world

Virgin Australia passengers, including the Adelaide Crows AFL team, face long delays after a glitch crashed its check-in system.

The airline blamed an ‘Optus technical issue’ for the system meltdown and warned customers to allow for extra time.

‘We are manually checking passengers in and therefore there will be delays to flights today,’ Virgin Australia said.

‘We recommend that anyone who is due to fly with us this afternoon allow extra time for check-in at the airport.’

The Crows were due to return to Adelaide on Sunday afternoon after their Grand Final loss to Richmond the day before, but were stuck in Melbourne.

Virgin said it was working with Optus to fix the issue.

This is the latest technical fault to plague Australian airlines after airports around the world were thrown into chaos last week.
