Alabama assistant coach’s son shot dead

The son of Alabama assistant coach Mike Locksley was shot and killed over the weekend.

Meiko Locksley, 25, was gunned down in Columbia, Maryland just after 10pm on Sunday, and died a short time later from his injuries in hospital.

‘Multiple callers reported hearing a single gunshot in the neighborhood, and a resident located Locksley outside and called 911,’ Howard County police said in a news release.

Police are investigating but say they have no suspect or motive behind the shooting.

Meiko’s death came after Crimson Tide romped to a 24-7 victory over No. 3 Florida State. About 24 hours later, the 25-year-old was gunned down.

Since then, the Alabama Crimson Tide family have paid tribute to Meiko and send their condolences.

Head coach Nick Saban passed on his ‘thoughts and prayers’ to Mike Locksley and his family after the tragedy.

‘I just feel real bad, just like everyone else,’ added Tide receiver Calvin Ridley, who texted his support to Locksley. ‘I just want him to know I love him and I really don’t know anything else about it.’

Mike Locksley holds two roles at Alabama: wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator. Locksley is a Washington native who served two stints as an assistant at Maryland.

He spent last season as an offensive analyst and was Maryland’s interim head coach for the final six games in 2015. Players were still absorbing the news yesterday.
