Alarm in Bali over heavily tattooed Aussie tourist causing chaos in his undies – as we reveal the disturbing inside story

An Australian tourist who is fully tattooed from head to toe is causing chaos in his underwear in Bali by repeatedly ranting in public and stopping traffic at famous Kuta Beach.

Daily Mail Australia can exclusively reveal that Mark Paul Barry, 54, has been at the centre of a spate of incidents on the tourist island, with some locals complaining his  recent, very public arrest was the ‘umpteenth’ time he has caused issues recently.

Local police reports state that Barry has recently frequented both Kuta and Legian Beaches and ‘acted disturbingly… wandering the streets wearing only boxers without a shirt’. The reports said he is often ‘heavily drunk.’

On his most recent occasion, last Thursday at about 9pm, Barry was pictured sprawled in his underpants outside the entrance of the Love Fashion Hotel.

The incident – captured in an unflattering photo – sparked a frantic investigation by Balinese police and immigration officials and exasperation from locals who had seen all too much of Barry before.

The Mail can reveal that Barry – from the Brisbane suburb of Bald Hills – has an extensive, 22 page criminal history back home.

Barry, who is a self-confessed motorbike lover, has his face and neck covered in tattoos of skulls, an ‘anarchy’ symbol,  a number ’12’ and ‘Mum’ and ‘Dad’ on his neck.

Balinese media reported that Batty is ‘often seen hanging around Kuta Beach wearing only boxer shorts’ and that ‘in several incidents, he was seen walking around shirtless and shouting indiscriminately, causing concern among residents and other hotel guests’.

This caused his ‘cheap budget hotel’ (not Love Fashion) to ask him to check out.

Detik Bali reported that ‘Barry also often appeared in the Legian area while heavily drunk, to the point of stopping motorcyclists and Kuta Police directed him back to where he was staying.

‘The community reported again on Thursday, September 29, 2023, that his presence was disturbing the peace in the area.’

Last week Bali Police arrested Barry for ‘acting up and creating an uncomfortable atmosphere on Kuta Beach Street’.

According to Bali Prawara, Barry ‘was difficult to communicate with and tended to be hyperactive and difficult to calm down’.

Police said ‘he didn’t connect, and just babbled, so we took him to Prof. Ngoerah Hospital to get medical treatment.

‘While in the hospital, the foreigner started ranting and behaving hyperactively, he even took off all his clothes so that he was only wearing short underwear.’

This was despite the fact that Barry called an Indonesian woman who attended and allegedly gave him a sedative.

On his Instagram account, Barry is pictured together with a young woman in Bali.

Social media comments posted alongside pictures of Barry sprawled outside the Love Fashion Hotel indicated members of the public had seen him before.

One person commented ‘this is the umpteenth time this has happened’ while another wrote ‘wow. I ran into you this Thursday night in Legian’.

Barry has a prior rap sheet in Queensland for drug offences, and in 2020 was refused bail after being arrested for a serious assault and threatening violence.

During a bail application in a Brisbane magistrates court, Barry said he was seeking release to make to make a neurosurgeon appointment regarding a spinal tumour.

The court heard that he ‘had 22 pages of criminal history, mostly for drugs, but had rarely been before the court’ in the previous eight years’ and had ‘only been jailed once, in 2009’.

Magistrate Melanie Ho refused his application.

Last year, Barry pleaded guilty to enlisting people while incarcerated inside Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre to put a bounty on someone’s head over a property dispute, according to media reports.

Pine Rivers Magistrates Court heard Barry had also requested other crimes be committed on his behalf while behind bars, including asking people on the outside to break into a house and to steal a car and allegedly making death threats in a suburban street.

The court was told Barry made gun gestures at a victim’s head saying ‘you’re f***-king dead’ as well as making slashing motions across his throat.

Barry pleaded guilty to stalking, assault occasioning bodily harm – domestic violence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, fraud, breaching bail and other domestic violence offences.

His lawyer told the court Barry suffered post traumatic stress disorder from incidents during childhood, as well as other mental health issues.
