Alarming Barry Humphries health update

Alarming health update about legendary Australian comedian Barry Humphries – the genius behind Dame Edna Everage

Legendary Australian comedian Barry Humphries – best known for his role as Dame Edna Everage – has gone into an ‘unresponsive state’ in hospital.

Humphries, 89, was found unresponsive at Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital on Thursday night, according to his family, ABC Radio Sydney reported.

He was admitted to hospital earlier this week following post-surgery complications following a fall in February.

His family, including his four children have rushed to be at his hospital bedside.

The entertainer – known for his drag alter ego Dame Edna Everage – issued a jovial statement through his publicist  on Wednesday thanking fans and well-wishers.

‘Barry would like to thank every body for the support and best wishes he has received but he would like more and more,’ the statement said.

His wife Elizabeth Spender also told 9News that he was ‘doing fine’.

It has been revealed that there are ‘serious’ concerns for the entertainer amid his hospital dash, according to The Sun.

Entertainment journalist Peter Ford told Channel Seven’s Sunrise that Barry’s health had ‘worsened’ in the week before his hospital admission.

‘I reckon Barry has a fighting spirit and he’s not going to give up easily,’ he added.

On Wednesday, Peter had said ‘things are tough’ and asked fans to send their love to the man who had been making them laugh for decades.

‘At this moment Barry is a serious condition but being kept comfortable. He’s surrounded by family,’ he said.

Throughout his career, Barry has met and charmed most of the Royal Family, from the late Queen Mother to King Charles III.

He had  been touring across the country, including in the UK, over the last year, where he spent much of his time touring for his one-man show.
