The Norwood store in Adelaide, South Australia officially opened its doors on Wednesday morning, with many describing the layout as a ‘very warehouse looking Aldi’.

Customers were treated to a treasure trove of Special Buys products, while others were given a map just so they could find their way around the six ‘huge’ aisles.

The layout of the brand new outlet appears bigger than the standard format stores around Australia, as the shelves are piled high with household essentials.

‘Ladies, I just checked out the brand new Aldi at Norwood – it just opened. Lots of stock there if you’ve been looking for something in particular,’ one shopper said, alongside pictures of the new Aldi store.

Many customers were shocked by the size of the store compared to their local outlet, with one saying: ‘This makes our Aldi look like a garden shed.’

Another shopper said: ‘That is huge. Our Aldi is tiny in comparison,’ while another added: ‘Can we swap stores? My Aldi is so tiny.’

The latest store is so well stocked, some customers joked: ‘Wow! Looks like all our stock went there.’

‘Oh my lord, I’d be gone for days if this was my local Aldi store,’ one shopper said.

‘At ALDI, we are proud to call ourselves “Good Different”,’ Viktor Jakupec, managing director of South Australia, ALDI Australia, said.

‘We offer a supermarket experience that is like no other in Australia, and it’s our differences that allow us to bring unbeatable value to our customers everyday.

‘We’re excited to be opening our new store in Norwood and look forward to showing local residents the difference ALDI can make to their wallets and lifestyles.’

The store features a number of innovations that will offer an ‘enhanced shopping experience’ for customers, with better product displays, improved navigation and a modern interior store design.

Features include redesigned shelving, expanded wooden produce bays, as well as extended energy efficient chillers.

As energy management remains a key priority for ALDI, the store has energy efficient LED lighting. There will also be improved point-of-sale displays and store signage.

‘While we’re delighted to be introducing these innovations, we want our customers to know they won’t lead to higher prices,’ Mr Viktor said.

‘Low prices are a big deal for ALDI. In fact, we refuse to be beaten on price. This is our fundamental point of difference and one we will never give away.’

The new store is located at 76 Magill Road, Norwood.

Opening hours will be 8:30am-8pm Monday to Friday, with extended hours until 9pm Thursday. Weekend hours will be 8am-5pm Saturday and 11am-5pm Sunday.

The supermarket giant is set to open an Aldi Plympton store on Wednesday, June 24, which is just a 20-minute drive from the Nordwood outlet.
