Aldi and its cut-price ‘Special Buys’ are the stuff of Australian legend, with the discount supermarket chain offering bargains on everything from lounge furniture to ski gear.
Bargain-hunters were delighted to discover that Aldi will be selling second-hand 16GB iPhone 6 models for only $449, which you can no longer buy from Apple.
The refurbished phones will be available in grey or silver and will come unlocked to service providers along with a 12-month warranty.
Supermarket giant Aldi will soon be selling the iPhone 6 for $499 as one of their ‘Special Buys’
Aldi has had great success with the ‘Special Buy’ catalogue, with items selling out in minutes
While it’s only the $449 price tag is only a $20-30 saving when compared with other online retailers, it is a bargain given that Apple now only offers the updated iPhone 6s, which is about $699 brand new.
However, customers may have trouble getting their hands on one – given the ‘cult status’ of the Aldi SPecial Buy, products often sell out within minutes.
In September, a $99 Fabric Accent Arm Chair sold out within 20 seconds in some stores, with long lines out the door hours before the supermarket opened.
A week later, Aldi offered $199 ride-on Mercedes-Benz kids toy – but with the catch of there being severely limited stock that left many parents empty-handed and upset.
‘We knew it would be competitive and we may well miss out but when we got into our store we find they had only been supplied ONE of each!!??’ wrote one shopper.
‘To have all this hype over a catalogue so heavily advertised to find out every store within 50-100ks is in the same position?
‘Leaving so many customers disappointed! If you can’t supply demand don’t advertise … supplying a store with ONE item for a catalogue with no rainchecks is just bad faith and bad practice.’

Parents were furious after Aldi only had limited stock of their ‘Special Buy’ Mercedes-Benz toy
The iPhone 6 will be available at Aldi on OCtober 24, a few weeks later than advertised due an issue with delivery.
However, ‘stores are able to take names until close of business Sunday if customers would like to wait for their stock to arrive,’ according to an Aldi statement.
This offering comes on the back of a successful run selling second-hand 16GB iPhone 5S models as a ‘Special Buy’ in August.
