Alec Baldwin’s wife Hilaria tells followers she thinks she is having a miscarriage

Hilaria Baldwin shocked her Twitter and Instagram followers on Thursday when she shared some troubling news.

The 35-year-old wife of Alec Baldwin posed for a mirror selfie in her bra and underwear and revealed that she was not only pregnant, but that she was ‘likely’ in the middle of losing her fifth child.

‘I want to share with you that I am most likely experiencing a miscarriage,’ began the yoga guru in a lengthy Instagram caption. ‘I always promised myself that if I were to get pregnant again, I would share the news with you guys pretty early, even if that means suffering a public loss.’

The former TV star added, ‘I have always been so open with you all about my family, fitness, pregnancies…and I don’t want to keep this from you, just because it isn’t as positive and shiny as the rest.’

She went on to say: ‘I think it’s important to show the truth…because my job is to help people by being real and open. Furthermore, I have no shame or embarrassment with this experience.

‘I want to be a part of the effort to normalize miscarriage and remove the stigma from it. There is so much secrecy during the first trimester. This works for some, but I personally find it to be exhausting.

‘I’m nauseous, tired, my body is changing. And I have to pretend that everything is just fine — and it truly isn’t. I don’t want to have to pretend anymore. I hope you understand.’

And Hilaria went into great detail.

‘So, this is what is going on now: the embryo has a heartbeat, but it isn’t strong, and the baby isn’t growing very much.

‘So we wait — and this is hard. So much uncertainty…but the chances are very, very small that this is a viable pregnancy. I have complete confidence that my family and I will get through this, even if the journey is difficult.

‘I am so blessed with my amazing doctor, my dear friends, and my loving family…

‘My husband and my four very healthy babies help me keep it together and have the perspective of how truly beautiful life is, even when it occasionally seems ugly. The luck and gratitude I feel that I am my babies’ mommy, is wonderfully overwhelming and comforting.’

‘In your comments, please be kind. I’m feeling a bit fragile and I need support. I’m hoping, that by sharing this, I can contribute to raising awareness about this sensitive topic.’

Her husband Alec made a public show of support for his wife by re-posting her image on his own Instagram account, while writing simply: ‘My wife is kind and generous in her support of other women…’

How at least one in six pregnancies ends in a miscarriage

One in six pregnancies in women who know they are pregnant become miscarriages.

But more will happen among women who don’t know they are carrying a child.

Miscarriage is a when a baby dies within the first 23 weeks of a woman’s pregnancy.

The main symptoms are bleeding from the vagina, which may be accompanied by lower abdominal pain.

There are various reasons women may have a miscarriage – it is common and is not usually caused by something they have done.

If a miscarriage happens in the second trimester – between weeks 14 and 26 – it may be a sign of an underlying problem.

Often, miscarriages are one-off events and women will go on to have successful pregnancies.

The majority of miscarriages can’t be prevented, although being generally healthy will help reduce the risk.

Losing three or more pregnancies in a row – known as recurrent miscarriages – is uncommon but still affects around one in 100 women.

Not everyone was able to follow this advice however, with Hilaria later revealing on her Instagram Story that she had been left a cruel comment by one user who wrote: ‘Nothing is private anymore… Good god you’re annoying…’

Referring to the message as ‘evil’, Hilaria then revealed her response to the commenter, which read: ‘I would suggest that you go through and read even just a handful of comments from people who have experienced the same thing.

‘And maybe your heart and compassion will grow.’

For the most part however, it seems Hilaria has been flooded with messages of support, with the mother writing on her Instagram Story: ‘Thank you for the support and for your stories… This is why I wanted to share.

‘We are such a community here. And may we continue to stick together and lift each other up.’

Hilaria and Alec wed in 2012. Together they have a five-year-old daughter name Carmen Gabriela and three sons: three-year-old Rafael Thomas, two-year-old Leonardo Ángel Charles, and 10-month-old Romeo.

Last summer, during an appearance on Today, Hilaria spoke about the possibility of her family getting even bigger.

‘I have a daughter and then I have three boys. And my daughter is very sure that she is going to have a sister,’ she said.

‘She does have a sister — she has Ireland, and Ireland is so wonderful and they have a great relationship,’ she went on, referring to Alec’s 22-year-old model daughter with Kim Basinger.

‘But there’s something about a little sister that she really wants.

‘I think it’s possible. Not [for sure]. Alec thinks it’s very possible. He comes from a big family,’ she added.

She confirmed her desire to get pregnant again during an appearance on the Ellen Show in February, saying: ‘When I told Carmen I was pregnant with another boy, she came to me and said, “Mommy, how about you have another girl then you can have another boy?” And I told her it doesn’t work that way.’

Shortly after posting the candid message about her miscarriage, Hilaria shared a plea for privacy in her Instagram story. While asking paparazzi to let her be, she promised to ‘continue to post photos on my Instagram.’

‘I would like some physical space from being chased with cameras right now,’ she said.

Hilaria has already received plenty of support from famous friends and admirers.

‘You have all our love, always,’ commented Daphne Oz, while Loeffler Randall founder Jessie Randall, Badgley Mischka, and Caitlyn Jenner’s friend Sophia Hutchins also commented within an hour.

The symptoms of miscarriage appear to have come on quite suddenly. While Hilaria shared her message on Instagram just before 10am ET on Thursday morning, she was enjoying a fun evening out with her husband the night before.

She and Alec walked the red carpet at the FIT Annual Awards Gala, smiling for the cameras before heading into the party.

Hilaria wasn’t showing even a hint of a bump in her black tuxedo dress, which she accessorized with black heels and jewelry.

Wednesday was also Alec’s 61st birthday.

While the mid-miscarriage admission is certainly a surprising one, Hilaria has always been incredibly candid about her pregnancies and her changing body, sharing regular updates both in the lead-up to each birth, and in the months after the babies’ arrival.

In 2018, when she was still expecting Romeo, she showed off a series of baby bump photos in which she showed how her figure was different during each of her four previous pregnancies.

She has also posted postpartum underwear photos shortly after giving birth to each.

Just 12 days after welcoming Romeo, she shared a photo of herself smiling in a sexy black bra and underwear.

In the caption, she acknowledged that not everyone could look like she does, but she has managed to maintain her figure by staying particularly active.

‘Every body is different, but I believe in staying as active as possible,’ she wrote. ‘There were so many moments when I didn’t want to work out this pregnancy. Showing up is the most difficult challenge. I had to drag myself out and do even a little.

She went on to say that she had already starting working out again, less than two weeks after giving birth.

‘Each birth is different and your doctor will be able to advise you on when you can begin,’ she wrote.

‘When you can, be patient with your body. You have been through so much and created something so precious. Know that day by day, movement by movement, you will regain your strength and feel amazing.’
