England star Alessia Russo endeared herself to fans by cheekily taking a look at a note of tactical instructions brought on by a German substitute during the Euro 2022 final.

The hilarious moment came in extra time, just after Chloe Kelly had scored what would turn out to be the winning goal.

Germany’s Felicitas Rauch was replaced by Lena Lattwein, who was sent on as Martina Voss-Tecklenburg tried to inspire her side to draw level for the second time in the game.

But the midfielder also brought on a note which she first passed to Kathrin Hendrich, when Ella Toone tried to get a sneak peak.

The Wolsburg defender then passed it to another substitute in Sara Doorsoun-Khajeh, when Russo cheekily came up from behind to get a glance at the note.

It only helped Russo endear herself to fans, already being a popular member of the England squad after scoring a spectacular backheel earlier in the tournament.

She was a key figure in the final as England beat Germany 2-1 after extra time.

Fans tweeted their appreciation, for Russo’s gag, with one tweeting, ‘Russo taking a look at the Germany notes. Love it.’

Others called it ‘peak comedy’ and said they ‘hope she understands German!’

Kelly’s winner came after Ella Toone’s delicate chip was cancelled out by a goal from Lina Magull.

It was Germany’s first loss in a women’s Euros final after eight wins.
