Alex Dimitriades on remaking Wake In Fright

Remakes can sometimes be somewhat of a hit or miss.

But actor Alex Dimitriades, 43, has revealed that he was anything but nervous about starring in the upcoming 2017 production of Wake In Fright, despite the 1971 film’s legendary status 

‘You can either have the weight of everything that’s come before you hold you down or you can surge forward and produce something that’s altogether new and that’s freeing,’ he told the he told News Corp on Saturday.

‘That’s hopefully what we’ve done (with Wake In Fright).’

Alex went on to say that although he isn’t easily scared, Channel Ten’s two-part mini-series is an extremely frightening rival, and will still keep viewers who have seen the original on the edge of their seats.

‘It’s pretty enthralling, even though I know what happens and I know where it goes, I was excited to see how it played out on screen.’

Wake In Fright’s original screenplay was immersed in controversy after it’s release for the horrifying depiction of a real kangaroo hunting scene. 

Many claimed director Ted Kotchoff, who is a confessed vegetarian, was guilty of animal cruelty, before he released a statement in 2012 defending his use of the footage.
