Alex Morgan officially said an emotional goodbye to soccer on as she played in her final professional game, walking onto the field with her daughter Charlie on Sunday night.
Morgan, 35, announced via social media on Thursday she was retiring from the sport after a lengthy career due to being pregnant with her second child.
The US women’s national team legend started and captained the NWSL’s San Diego Wave for her final match and was subbed off in the 13th minute, her jersey number for most of her career.
The Wave ended up losing the match to the North Carolina Courage 4-1 with Morgan on the pitch for the only San Diego goal.
After the game, Morgan was brought flowers by her daughter before posing for pictures with the bouquet.

Morgan finishes her career with 224 appearances for the US national team, scoring 123 goals, the fifth-best all-time. She also has the ninth-most appearances for the Stars and Stripes of any woman.
Morgan was recently left off the United States’ Olympic roster by new head coach Emma Hayes, leaving her international career in doubt. Now, she is hanging up the cleats for good without making an appearance under the former Chelsea boss.
Morgan does hold the USWNT record for goals as a mother, with 16, passing Joy Fawcett last year. She became a mom in 2020, giving birth to Charlie. After giving birth, Morgan represented the United States at the Tokyo Olympics and at last year’s World Cup.
Morgan is married to longtime Major League Soccer player Servando Carrasco.
The USWNT legend spent the last two years playing for the Wave. She has mostly been based in the United States for her club soccer, but also has stints with European mainstays Lyon and Tottenham.
She also ranks fifth all-time in USWNT history in combined goals and assists, only behind Mia Ham, Abby Wambach, Carli Lloyd, and Kristine Lilly.
