Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain dreaming of ‘massive’ Champions League final

  • He believes beating City will help Liverpool’s fearlessness in the last four
  • Oxlade-Chamberlain insisted ‘it doesn’t matter’ who they face in the semi-final

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has insisted Liverpool will be fearless no matter who they are drawn against in the Champions League semi-finals.

Jurgen Klopp’s men secured a historic 5-1 aggregate victory over Manchester City in the quarter-finals, completed by a 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night courtesy of goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who scored in the 3-0 first leg victory at Anfield last week, is now dreaming of his first European final.

‘It is massive. It is everything you dream of when you are a young lad,’ he said according to Four Four Two. ‘You want to play in finals and they don’t come much bigger than the Champions League final.

‘We’ve made my dream that one step closer by getting into the semi-finals. We have given ourselves a great opportunity.’

Liverpool unexpectedly cruised into their first Champions League semi-final since 2008 – where they were beaten Chelsea –  and will be joined by Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Roma in the hat for the last four draw.

Having just seen off Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions-elect, their third successive victory this season, the 24-year-old claimed the Reds are not concerned with who they will face.

‘To beat City twice is no easy feat. We did it twice in a week and we also did it at an earlier stage this season,’ said the England international.

‘It just shows to us that when we are at the races and at the right level we can beat anyone in this league.’

Klopp’s side will discover their opponents on Friday, with the first leg fixtures to take place on April 24 and April 25.

‘Now it is on us, whoever we get in the next round, to go and prove that we can beat people in Europe as well,’ Oxlade-Chamberlain added. ‘It’s going to be tough whoever you play.

‘People might say Roma [are the preference] but look what they did (eliminating Barcelona), they performed amazingly well and look a great side.

‘It doesn’t matter who we get now, we have to make sure we are ready for anyone and can beat anyone.’
