Alex Scott reveals she is looking for a partner and has taken Jamie Redknapp’s dating advice

Alex Scott has revealed that she is ‘struggling’ to look for a partner and has taken advice from Jamie Redknapp in the hope of finding her perfect match.

The football pundit, 38, admitted she is ‘single and ready to mingle’ as she candidly spoke about her attempts to find a ‘connection’ with someone.

She explained that she is ‘open’ to getting to know both men and women and ‘never closes herself off’ when it comes to dating.

Alex has never publicly confirmed her sexuality but previously spoke about dating fellow footballer Kelly Smith, who was her teammate at Arsenal, in her memoir.

After ‘struggling’ with some dating apps, Alex said her pal and former footballer Jamie told her about the app Raya, which is commonly used by celebrities.

Speaking about her dating life, she told Grazia magazine: ‘Its really hard [to find someone] cause people have a load of preconceptions. I struggle with apps.

‘For me, it’s all about connection that instant connection with someone and conversation and I’m like ‘Oh wow.’

‘I remember Jamie Redknapp telling me ‘There’s a dating app Raya…’ So I was on it but I was to scared to connect with anyone.’

Opening up about her future plans, Alex admitted she would ‘love’ to have children as she spoke about turning 40 in two years time.

The TV presenter admitted that she wasn’t ready to have kids in the past but would have children by herself if she felt it was the right time.

Alex went on to speak about the online trolling she has had to deal with since retiring from football and becoming a broadcaster.

She candidly admitted online bullies have sometimes made her question whether she is ‘actually good at her job’ and has spoken about these fears in therapy.

Speaking about her footballing career, Alex admitted that people told her she wouldn’t make it but when she did, she worried about what she would do when she left Arsenal.

She said her love for broadcast stemmed from her own enjoyment of pre and post match interviews, leading to her successful career as a sports pundit.

However, her road to presenting was not without its barriers as Alex said some broadcasters told her she wouldn’t make it because she has a stammer and an accent.

Alex, who also has dyslexia, said she never wanted to admit defeat so memorised every script by heart because she wasn’t able to read the standard autocue.

While presenting on BBC’s The One Show alongside Matt Baker, she realised she could read his autocue because his font was different as he also had dyslexia.

Her latest comments about her dating life come after she confirmed her past relationship with her teammate Kelly Smith in her memoir.

She played alongside Kelly, 43, for both England and Arsenal, admitted that she was her ‘first love’ as she spoke of the ‘heartbreak’ that followed when they split.

In the book, titled How (Not) To Be Strong, Alex said that it would be ‘cheating’ to not include their time together as they helped each other face their demons.

Sources close to Alex revealed at the time that she has had relationships with both men and women but ‘doesn’t label herself as anything’.

Speaking to The Mirror at her book launch, she explained: ‘I’m writing this book and I want to tell everything. I thought I’d be cheating you all if I didn’t put that in there.

‘For me, it’s like that first love story, I fell madly and deeply in love. And yes, there’s that heartbreak and those things, but it’s a huge part of my life and I wouldn’t go back and change that.

‘Because that feeling of love and that excitement and what it gives you, it needed to be in there.’

Alex recalled how Kelly helped her helped her to deal with her traumatic childhood whilst she battled alcoholism.

Following their split, Kelly went on to marry DeAnna Dobosz in 2016, with whom she has two children.

Alex largely remained tight-lipped about her relationships in the past, though she was rumoured to be in relationship with Coronation Street’s Sam Robertson in 2020.
