A 45-year-old man has turned himself into police in relation to the stabbing of a 39-year-old woman in a gym carpark.

The woman was rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition on Wednesday after the alleged attack outside Crunch Gym in Alexandria, southern Sydney, about 12.30pm.

She was allegedly stabbed multiple times in the neck, head and back before the knifeman fled the scene in a vehicle.

A 45-year-old man presented himself to Dee Why Police Station about 7.50am on Thursday in relation to the alleged attack.

He was arrested and taken to Manly Police Station for further investigation.

It is believed the man and woman were known to each other with the incident being treated as domestic violence-related.

After reviewing CCTV footage and speaking with witnesses, officers believed the offender was previously in a ‘very short domestic relationship’ with the woman.

‘It’s horrendous what has happened to this poor victim,’ South Sydney Police Area Command Superintendent Rod Hart said.
